The University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital is very near and dear to our hearts. Every year, we spend two days broadcasting live from the hospital for the Children's Miracle Network Radiothon. The event is incredibly emotional, but also incredibly rewarding, as we've been able to help raise over 3 million dollars for the hospital in the last 22 years!

Radiothon typically happens in the month of August, but there's another major fundraiser for the hospital coming up next weekend! The 25th annual University of Iowa Dance Marathon will take place Friday, February 1st and Saturday, February 2nd.

So, how exactly does the UI Dance Marathon work? Their Facebook page states:

"At the Big Event, our Dancers, Leadership Members, and, most importantly, our DM families assemble in the Iowa Memorial Union for 24 straight hours that includes live entertainment, DJs, numerous activities, and speeches given by our DM families at the top of every hour. During the Big Event, able-bodied Dancers may not sit, sleep, or drink caffeine in order to raise awareness for pediatric cancer."

The post also states that the UI dance marathon is the biggest student organization at the college and the 3rd largest dance marathon in the entire country!

Now, here's the deal: anyone wishing to participate in the DM must raise at least $500 to do so. Our favorite ex-morning show intern Hannah Zepeda is one of the many participants this year attempting to raise that money!
