Thanksgiving is a wondrous time, but it can be a little stressful trying to get things together for the big feast. Not to mention the amount of traveling that takes place on and around the holiday.

Google Trends "uses data from Google Maps to provide insight into the places people visit around the holidays and the best times to get on (or stay off) the roads". Recently this same data was used to determine each state's 'Most Uniquely Popular Searches During Thanksgiving'.

This basically tells us what locations the people in each state are searching for the most on Google Maps around Thanksgiving. These are potentially places you may want to avoid around the holiday if you want to stay away from long lines and traffic.

As you can see, Iowa's most unique location search on Thanksgiving is 'Office Supply Store'.

Either people really need some crafts and such to keep those kiddos busy on Thanksgiving or there's some great deals going on. Whatever the reason may be, Iowans seems to be looking for and visiting local office supply stores A LOT around the holiday. Leave those other shoppers in your dust by getting your supplies early and staying out of the crazy crowds this Thanksgiving. That is, unless you're into that sort of thing.

Here's how some of our neighboring states compare:

  • Nebraska- Home Improvement Store. To spruce up the home last minute?
  • Missouri- Kennel. It seems as though Missourians kennel their pups when traveling for the holidays.
  • Illinois- Football Field. Nothing like a good game of football on Thanksgiving.
  • Wisconsin & Minnesota- Plant Nursery. Maybe their picking out their Christmas trees...or plants.

People in each state have unique places they like to go around Thanksgiving. If you don't want to be part of the crowd, you should probably stay away from the place listed in your state. That is unless you live in Oregon...they seem to have the right idea.
