It's that time of year. Summer officially begins this Thursday, and you might be thinking about your summer vacation. A quick summer road trip might be all you're up for, and a new survey has determined the best (and worst) states in America for it.

WalletHub looked at three main categories for their findings: cost, safety and activities.

The "bottom five" states on the list, making them the "worst" states for a summer road trip were Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii and New Mexico

Hawaii being on the bottom on the list might surprise you, but remember: it's an island. Not a ton of "roads" to take a trip on, if we're being really technical.

The top five best states for a road trip were as follows:

  1. Wyoming
  2. North Carolina
  3. Minnesota
  4. Texas
  5. Florida

Makes sense (in most cases...Minnesota?).

Where does Iowa stand? Somewhere in the middle, but closer to the bottom than we might like. Despite having places like the Field of Dreams, Adventureland, the Amana Colonies, The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Okoboji and more in our neck of the woods, we in Iowa come in at #35 on the Best States for a Roadtrip list.
