Back-to-school time means big deals in stores.

Many of those big buys come during Iowa's "tax-free weekend". The tax holiday in Iowa occurs from Friday, August 2 at 12:01 a.m. through Saturday, August 3 at 11:59 p.m.

The 6 percent sales tax in Iowa will be waived during this time on clothing priced at $100 or less. "Any article of wearing apparel and typical footwear intended to be worn on or about the human body" priced at $100 or less will not include tax.

Some items not on the tax-free list include watches, watchbands, jewelry, umbrellas, handkerchiefs, sports equipment, skis & swim fins, rollerblades and skates, and any apparel or footwear specifically designed for athletic use, as opposed to everyday wear.

You can order items from the tax-free list, which is linked here, while shopping online as well.

Most manufacturer's coupons will not be honored on already-discounted items during the tax-free period. You can get tax waived on layaway items as long they're placed on layaway during the sales tax holiday. Computers and school supplies are not included.

Happy shopping, and have a great school year!
