Status of MLB Game at Field Of Dreams Uncertain
Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday that it has put in motion a plan to play a 60 game regular season, with games starting in late July. The question is whether one of those regular-season games will be played at The Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa.
MLB announced back in August of 2019 that it would be holding its first-ever game in the state of Iowa on August 13, 2020. The matchup would be between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Yankees at the Field of Dreams movie site. A new temporary stadium is being built on the land to house nearly 10,000 people. But like every other big event in 2020, it too has been put on alert due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Roman Weinberg, the director for Go the Distance Baseball, the group that runs the Field of Dreams site, told KCRG that the decision isn't theirs to make. He is confident that they'll be hearing from MLB in the next week or so. Meanwhile, MLB issued the following statement to KCRG.
“To date, there has been no change in the status of the event, and we hope to have the option to play. Construction is continuing, and we are following all CDC and state protocols regarding recommended safety practices including social distancing, washing hands, and temperature checks before arriving to the site. Safeguarding public health is our top priority.
Crews are still working on the new temporary stadium at the movie site. Weinberg says that he still believes that the game will happen, he just isn't sure if it will be in 2020. He doesn't believe that MLB would make this kind of investment and not play the game.
