One of the great events of late summer/early fall will take place this weekend in Ames. It is the annual battle for the Cy-Hawk trophy. It is Iowa versus Iowa State. Hawkeye against the Cyclones. A state divided. Heck, families are divided! This matchup doesn't need any more fuel added to the fire! But it is about to be on the radar for another reason entirely.

In case you haven't heard, 2024 is an election year and the candidates are already campaigning hard to get your attention and your vote. Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucuses are an early testing ground to see who is for real, and who will be the first to get out of the race. GOP candidates have visited Iowa many times this year already with several visiting the Iowa State Fair during the month of August. So it shouldn't be too much of a shock to hear that two will be visiting Ames on Saturday, and one is a former President.

Former President Donald Trump will attend the Cy-Hawk game on Saturday, according to KCRG. It will be Trump's sixth visit to the state of Iowa this year. Also attending the big game will fellow GOP hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy. KCCI is also reporting that former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson will be in attendance. Officials say that due to the presence of the former President, there will be at least double the number of law enforcement officers on hand to help everyone feel safe.

Trump also attended the Cy-Hawk game in 2015. The Hawkeyes won 31-17.
