An accident on the S curve through downtown Cedar Rapids killed a man Monday, and now we're learning more about what may have caused the crash.

According to Cedar Rapids Police, authorities were called to the scene below I-380 around A Avenue and 4th St. NE Monday at 4:11 p.m. When they arrived, officers determined the vehicle had left I-380 northbound, went over the interstate guardrail, and landed on its top below. The only person in the vehicle, a 59-year-old male, had already died when emergency personnel arrived. He has been identified as Bradley Dean Tolsma of Marion.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports Cedar Rapids Police Department spokesperson Greg Buelow says snow along the interstate may have played a factor in the crash. According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the driver "appears to have ramped off snow piled on the shoulder to the railroad tracks below near Fourth Street and A Avenue NE."

It is also possible a medical condition played a role in the crash. An autopsy and toxicology reports are being conducted.
