Sam’s Club Will No Longer Need To Check Your Receipt
For those of you who shop at Sam's Club like my family does, your trip to the store is about to get a little faster.
Sam's Club has announced that they will soon stop checking your receipt when you leave the store, according to Sioux Land Proud. The announcement was made during the Wal-Mart keynote at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. Sam's Club is a subsidiary of Wal-Mart. The store will instead use AI to scan your cart before you leave.
A store official described the process like this. Sioux Land Proud reports that customers at Sam's Club will shop as they normally do. Instead of having their receipt checked, "computer vision and digital technology" will take photos of a cart to verify that all the items were paid for.
A demonstration of the technology featured one shopper using the Scan and Go app and another customer paying at the register. The process worked the same for both shoppers, according to Sioux Land Proud. In a news release, Sam's Club officials said that the new technology is all about making the shopping experience more enjoyable.
With AI working in the background to continually speed the process, this digital innovation not only streamlines the member’s exit, but also allows exit greeters to refocus their time and expertise to assisting members and ensuring they have an enjoyable shopping experience.
The new AI checkout technology is being tested in 10 Sam's Club locations as a pilot program, according to Sioux Land Proud. The company plans to have it rolled out to all of its stores by the end of 2024.
