New Cedar Falls Roundabout Coming to Dangerous Intersection
Roundabouts...
In Iowa, you either love them or hate them!
I just barely tolerate them.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, there are sixty-one roundabouts in the entire state, as of February 2024.
There are ten "modern roundabouts" in Linn County.
Black Hawk County has four of these roundabouts with three of them being located right in Cedar Falls. After some recent developments, it looks like Cedar Falls might be getting one more.
In early December, a group of concerned citizens dropped by the Cedar Falls City Council Meeting. According to a report from the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier, their goal was to make some safety improvements to a dangerous stretch of road.
After they voiced their concerns, now work has begun on setting up a new roundabout at West First Street (Iowa Highway 57) and North Union Road intersection in Cedar Falls.
This month, roundabout was determined to be the best course of action for this intersection.
The Iowa Department of Transportation did a safety analysis and determined that a roundabout would be the best option for traffic safety. Six individuals were injured in November of 2023 at this intersection.
Currently, the roundabout is in the works but there is no word on just when construction will begin or when it will be open and ready for drivers.
We will keep you updated when more information is made available to the public.
