Prince Philip was the longest-serving member of the British monarchy, and was married to the Queen for 74 years.

The Duke of Edinburgh appeared solo for public engagements over 22,000 times since 1952.

Elizabeth and Philip initially met at a wedding in 1934, that of Philip's cousin and Elizabeth's uncle. They were third cousins through Queen Victoria.

The two met again in 1939, at Royal Naval College in Dartmouth that their relationship bloomed. They married in 1947, on November 20th.

It was after her father's death in 1953 that the young couple's life changed forever when Elizabeth was coronated.
