Porch Pirates Avoid Easy Pickings in Hiawatha
'Tis the season for lots of home deliveries and Hiawatha cops are once again are asking residents if they would be interested in volunteering their porches for a holiday sting operation.
The cops arrange for "decoy packages" to be left on residents' porches, in an effort to stop porch pirates in their tracks. The packages contain GPS devices that help cops track down the thieves.
Very clever idea, you say. And it sure seems to be working.
Since reporting this story on Wednesday November 21, KCRG says Hiawatha police say there have been no porch pirates stealing packages - which is a 100% success.
Criminals may be dumb, but they're not always stupid.
