Three and a half months. That's how long the derecho that swept through eastern Iowa on August 10 kept one of the area's most popular restaurants closed. Tuesday, November 24 was the day corridor residents were thrilled to find out the news that Zoey's Pizzeria, on the square in Marion, is back. More than 1,000 reactions and nearly 200 comments on the Facebook post below showed the excitement and love.

Zoey's Pizzeria first opened its doors in 1991, delighting customers with both deep dish Chicago-style and thin crust New York-style pizzas.

When the land hurricane hit, Zoey's was one of many local businesses that was dealt a devastating blow. Keeping a positive outlook, the restaurant posted that the "derecho had a hankering for a Chicago style Zoey (combo pizza) and Zookie (dessert) and decided to stop by Zoey's."

The closure was the second for Zoey's in 2020. They were closed for a couple of weeks at the end of March and beginning of April, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During this closure, it literally took a village to reopen the longtime fixture on Marion's square. Owner Denny Novak posted a lengthy thank you last night because there were so many that deserved gratitude.

Zoey's is currently open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day. Welcome back Zoey's Pizzeria... you've definitely been missed.
