Oktoberfest in the Amana Colonies is Canceled for 2020
With the official Oktoberfest in Germany canceled this year, it was only a matter of time before other Oktoberfest celebrations across the country followed suit. A new article from CBS 2 has revealed that Oktoberfest in the Amana Colonies will not be happening in 2020.
This year's Oktoberfest, scheduled for October 2nd through 4th, would be the 55th annual event, which makes it the oldest Oktoberfest in the state. The article from CBS 2 says that the event was canceled because of coronavirus concerns. According to the article:
"The cancellation of Oktoberfest comes after the recent spike in COVID-19 cases and concerns of the lack of social distancing that may take place at large events."
Just 10 days ago on August 21st, the official Facebook page for Oktoberfest in the Amana Colonies published a post saying that the event would still be happening this year, but with some big changes. The post reads:
"At this time we are moving forward with a smaller, safer, socially distanced Oktoberfest. More information to come!"
There is some good news, though. The Amana Colonies will still be hosting a series of smaller weekend events this fall, starting with Apfelfest on September 19th. The eight-week event period, titled "Autumn in the Amanas," will wrap up November 6th through 8th with the Girl's Getaway Weekend. You can check out the calendar of events HERE.
If you're really bummed about this year's Amana Colonies cancellation, there is still going to be an Oktoberfest celebration at Adventureland in Altoona this October. You can read more on that HERE.
