Officer-Involved Shooting In Northeast Iowa Leaves One Dead

A shooting in Bremer County last night has left one man dead after a lengthy standoff on Highway 218.

According to a release from the Bremer County Sheriff's Office, the department received a 911 call just after 8:30 Wednesday night for a man who had a gun pointed at his head at the Love's Truck Stop in Floyd.

Less than 20 minutes later, a police officer from Nashua saw a vehicle traveling south on Highway 218 at 104 miles-per-hour. After the vehicle was stopped, the male driver got out with a handgun pointed at his head.

The Iowa State Patrol, Nashua Police Department, and deputies from both the Chickasaw and Bremer County Sheriff's Offices responded. Following around 40 minutes of negotiations with the man, he fired a shot from inside the vehicle he was driving.

When officers then approached the vehicle, the man was unharmed. After resisting officers efforts to take him into custody, he hit an officer with his vehicle. Two officers then fired, hitting the man who died at the scene.

The man's identity, and the names of the officers involved, have not been released. The investigation continues.
