New Planters To Be Installed Downtown
A key section of downtown Cedar Rapids is soon going to look a bit more green.
The plantings you see across downtown Cedar Rapids will be having new company across the Third Avenue bridge soon. The city has greenlit a project to install new ones down that stretch near the Linn County courthouse
Work will start in August and be a finished project by May 2020, beginning with pavement and structure rehabilitation, followed by the planters and trees going in, offering a buffer zone between the bike lanes and vehicle lanes on the Third Avenue Bridge. 115 planters and an unknown number of benches have already been purchased and are ready to install.
The city council approved it 7-0 but two members, Suzie Weinacht and Marty Hoeger were traveling and not present for the meeting.
The $170,000 project is being paid for by a mix of city-issued bonds for streetscaping, and tax increment financing from the downtown district.
The self-supporting downtown district will handle maintenance.
