In late February, 66-year-old Jerry Burns was convicted of first-degree murder in the 1979 stabbing death of Cedar Rapids teen Michelle Martinko. Burns was arrested on December 19, 2018, 39 years to the day after Martinko's murder after DNA evidence linked him to the longtime cold case. He was sentenced to life in prison last month.

Back in March, we told you that television crews from both CBS and NBC were in Cedar Rapids preparing episodes of their respective news magazines '48 Hours' and 'Dateline NBC.' Last month, Investigation Discovery's 'On the Case with Paula Zahn' also aired an episode on the case, called "A Test of Patience." You can watch it HERE.

Tonight, 'Dateline NBC's' season premiere will feature the case. According to a Facebook post from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, Dennis Murphy will host tonight's episode. The post says,

Watch how generations of officers and investigators never gave up on this case. Interviews include Investigator Matt Denlinger, retired Detective Doug Larison, retired Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Criminal Investigation Agent J.D. Smith, retired Police Officer Jim Kinkead, and Assistant Linn County Attorney Nick Maybanks.

'Dateline NBC' airs at 9 p.m. Iowa time.
