10 Must-Try Wisconsin Foods for Your Bucket List
If you were to visit Wisconsin, what food would you eat while you're there?
Let's say you don't know how to answer that, or maybe you were just as curious to find out what people think is a food that uniquely represents Wisconsin's rich culinary heritage.
I stumbled upon this question on Reddit a few days ago: "What Wisconsin-famous foods should I try?"
I am not from Wisconsin, but having spent some time in the state, I knew of a handful off the top of my head. However, I was reminded of a few I have never had or only once or twice.
Thanks to the helpful folks on the Wisconsin Reddit, I've compiled a list of 10 of the most famous foods that should be on your bucket list below.
Cheese Curds, either deep-fried or fresh. The go-to place, Union Star Cheese, is known for having 'some of the best fresh cheese curds on the planet.'
Bratwurst, where "our German food is more authentic than anywhere else in the country."
Beer Cheese Soup, where "some places put it in a bread bowl" made of pumpernickel.
Fish Fry where it "better be walleye, perch or panfish."
A massive Butter Burger. Go to Mihm's in Menasha, where they make a "fantastic one."
Some tasty Beer. Go to New Glarus and try the Spotted Cow or the Belgian Red.
Cream Puffs or Knee Caps are a delicious Wisconsin dessert you don't want to miss, even if the only kneecaps you've ever had are the two on your legs.
Old-Fashioned, served at a "one of a kind place." Go to Ishnala near Reedsburg "for drinks, views, and vibes."
A Bloody Mary garnished with an "irresponsible" amount of meat and cheese. Go to Parker John's in Sheboygan for the Bloody Mary with a "slider, half rack of ribs, a brat and more - all piled on top."
There is a delicious Cruller at Grebe's Bakery in West Allis. They have "large, small, and chocolate-covered" crullers.
Tell us what some other Wisconsin foods were that weren't mentioned.
