Midwest E Coli Outbreak Linked To Pizza Ranch
Pizza Ranch desserts are the latest food to be linked to an E Coli outbreak. Officials say people in nine states, including Iowa, became ill. According to the Center for Disease Control, the outbreak began in December among people who ate at the Iowa-based pizza chain. 13 people became ill, including one Iowan. Nine of those people said they had recently eaten at Pizza Ranch. Two of the victims were children and suffered kidney failure and had to be hospitalized.
Pizza Ranch looked at a dry dough mix used to make their desserts. After the company stopped using the mix, reports of illness stopped in February. Along with Iowa, illnesses were reported in Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Pizza Ranch is based in Orange City, Iowa and has 130 restaurant locations.
