[UPDATE: 7/23/22, 9:57 A.M.]: Yet again, no big winner Friday night! The Tuesday, July 26 Mega Millions jackpot will now be at least $790 million, as no one matched the six winning numbers (60-66-14-40-64 and the MegaBall: 16), according to Yahoo! News.

Nobody had all six numbers, including me, but there were several winners of smaller amounts, including three winners of $3 million each in Delaware, New Jersey, and New York and a $1 million prize winner from Virginia. The more people who buy tickets, the higher the jackpot grows, so get out there and play!

ABC says this is the fourth largest jackpot amount ever. That would be the fourth largest lottery jackpot at ANY level. According to CNN, there were two higher Mega Millions jackpots at $1.537B in South Carolina in 2018, and $1.050B in Michigan in 2021, as well as the world-record jackpot of $1.5786B from a Powerball ticket in 2016.

[7/22/22, 12:04 P.M.:] Want your shot at $660 million? You've got it tonight, as nobody reportedly won Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot, so now it continues to grow, to $630 million at press time. There hasn't been a winner in three months, according to NBC News.

ORIGINAL STORY:

NBC News says Friday night's Mega Millions jackpot will be the eighth-largest ever, with the overall top payout in its history being a whopping $1.537 billion, won by a very lucky ticket-holder in South Carolina back in 2018. Other recent big wins included a $426 million prize in January on a California ticket, a $128 million prize sold on a ticket in New York in March, a $110 million prize on a Minnesota ticket in April, and a $20 million jackpot on a ticket bought in Tennessee in April.

11 co-workers in California split a $543 million Mega Millions prize in 2018, but Iowa is certainly due.

According to the Mega Millions website, the game is played in 45 states (including Iowa) plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
