Another Hawkeyes game is coming up this weekend, which means we have another Kid Captain to recognize!

It's hard to believe we're already three weeks into college football season, but here we are! The Hawkeyes are set to play North Texas on Saturday afternoon for the second home game of the 2017 season. The University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital has their Kid Captain for the game all ready to go, and his name is Sam Spore.

15-year-old Sam currently lives in Dysart, Iowa, but he's actually from the country of Uganda. He was adopted by Chad and Heidi Spore after a two-year-long adoption process, making their family of nine a family of ten! Sam was born with hydrocephalus and spina bifida, and his bowel and bladder were never formed properly, so he faces some lifelong challenges. In preparation for Sam's arrival in the state, Heidi and Chad talked to specialists at the Center for Disabilities and Development at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital to learn about his conditions. He has undergone several procedures in the last few years, which have helped him to become more independent. According to the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital website, "Sam undergoes regular physical and occupational therapy, has neurosurgery and urology check-ups, and sees pediatric hematology specialists to address a blood disorder. Through it all, he maintains his smile and sense of humor."

Congratulations to Sam on the honor of being named a Kid Captain! If you'd like to read more about his journey, you can click HERE.
