From live, local shows on Friday nights in the summer at "Uptown Friday Nights", to major acts, and even barbecue festivals and cultural expos, we in Cedar Rapids know what a gem the McGrath Ampitheatre in downtown has become.

It's now getting recognition outside the confines of CR, as Travel Iowa has published a list the state's Top 9 music venues, putting the amphitheatre at #3!

In its write-up on the site, Travel Iowa says:

Located on the west bank of the Cedar River and within walking distance of downtown Cedar Rapidsthis amphitheatre hosts community programs and nationally touring concerts.

The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake also makes the list. This has become an iconic venue nationwide, as it was the site of the last concert played by Richie Valens, Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper, "The Day Music Died" when the trio of legends were lost in a plane crash.

Congratulations to our beloved McGrath Amphitheatre, and you can see the rest of the list here.
