Local Mayors Raise Money For Salvation Army In Friendly Competition
Technically it was a competition Wednesday between the mayors of Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, and Marion. But the real winner was the Salvation Army and the red kettle campaign.
It was Mayor's Challenge day on Wednesday as Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett, Hiawatha Mayor Bill Bennett, and Marion Mayor Nick AbouAssally all rang their bells at local Fairway stores. Who came out on top?
Bragging rights this year go to Marion Mayor AbouAssally who raised just over $451. Mayor Corbett from Cedar Rapids came in second at $164 with Bennett from Hiawatha third with $76.
The Salvation Army says the money raised in the Mayor's Challenge will be enough to provide meals to 277 people in their weekday meals program. Now THAT is a winning total.
