There are bad possessions in basketball, and then there are REALLY bad ones. Iowa's final possession against Kansas State found them with a chance to win the game. Instead, they never got a shot off and saw their best player injured on the court.

Iowa found themselves trailing Kansas State 84-83 with just 3.8 seconds left in regulation. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that on Iowa's final possession, the Hawkeyes fired an inbound pass to Caitlin Clark just past midcourt. Clark appeared to get her feet tangled with another player, eventually collapsing onto the court. Monica Czinano ended up with the ball in her hands, went up for a shot, and got fouled. However, after further review, the foul happened after the buzzer.

It was the correct call, and Iowa lost a tough road game by a single point. Now the focus turns to its best player. The Gazette reports that Clark stayed down on the floor for a while before being helped off the court. Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder confirmed after the game that Clark suffered a sprained ankle. The Gazette reports that as Clark left the arena she was not wearing a boot, but did have her ankle iced.

Clark led the way for Iowa with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. The Gazette reports that Iowa led by seven points four different times during the fourth quarter but just couldn't put Kansas State away for good. The Hawkeyes are now 3-1 on the season and return home to take on Belmont this Sunday at 2 p.m.
