Linn County Nonprofits Open New Downtown Cedar Rapids Dining Site
Just a few months after a fire temporarily displaced several residents of the Geneva Tower apartment building in downtown Cedar Rapids, renovation is complete, including a new dining site that's open to the public.
Iowa's News Now says that it's a partnership between Horizons Family Services Alliance and the Affordable Housing Network of Iowa. Geneva Tower is located at 310 Fifth Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids. A grand opening is set for August 2, with the general public welcome, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Danielle Rodriguez of the Affordable Housing Network of Iowa touts the community's support and the resilience of Geneva Tower's residents for making this project possible. Linn County’s Phase 39 grant and the Heritage Area Agency also donated funds.
The Cedar Rapids community has rallied around Geneva Tower. Horizons’ Meals on Wheels and NTS programs were vital after the fire, and this new site offers a place to break bread and fellowship,” said Rodriguez. “Our residents have also stepped up to help run the site daily
Following the grand opening, the public can visit the dining site Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with lunch served from 11 a.m. to noon. Lunch is served for those 60 and older for free, with a suggested goodwill donation of $5. For all others, it costs $6.
