Independence Student Arrested For Threatening School Post
In their investigation, police identified two students linked to the post. However, only the 13-year-old has been charged. The student was booked into the Buchanan County Jail and later released to a parent. They face charges of Threats of Terrorism, a Class D Felony, and will be referred to the juvenile court system for further proceedings.
The Independence Community School District played a crucial role in the investigation, cooperating fully with law enforcement. In response to the incident, the principals of the junior and senior high schools issued a joint letter to parents and guardians, addressing the situation and reinforcing their commitment to student safety.
Here is the statement:
“We received information this morning regarding a social media post indicating a potential threat to the school. We immediately followed up with that information and engaged law enforcement in an investigation. Independence Police Department was on campus this morning and is working in cooperation with Independence CSD.
It was determined there was and is no credible threat to the building, nor to any students in the building. As always, we want to assure families and students that students are safe and our building is secure.
Please remind your student(s) that inappropriate and disruptive social media posts are taken seriously and will be investigated fully.”
