John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England. There's no need to list his merits. He was simply one of the best artists of the 20th century. I thought I'd take a moment to honor him today, what would've been his 75th birthday.

Pearl Jam played New York City's Madison Square Garden in July 2003. On that night, they covered a great Lennon tune, 1971's "Gimme Some Truth". Eddie Vedder altered lyrics to aim venom at George Bush rather than Richard Nixon, but the power and message of the song were still the same. New York is where Lennon called home in 1980, when he was shot and killed outside his apartment.
