Intensity. Intimidation. Winning. Those three words perfectly described Tom and Terry Brands when they wrestled in high school in Iowa, at the University of Iowa, and on the world stage. Now, Big Ten Network is preparing to showcase the brothers in an hour-long special that no Iowa wrestling fan is going to want to miss.

For my money, there are few things as fun as watching an Iowa wrestling meet. Sure, the Hawkeyes have a talented team that's favored to win their second straight NCAA Championship, but what happens on the side of the mat is just as enjoyable to watch. We have Tom and Terry Brands to thank for that.

Tom Brands is in his 16th season as the head coach of the University of Iowa wrestling program. His career started at Sheldon High School where he won a state championship in 1986. He went 34-0 that year and 109-12 in high school. He would get even better under the tutelage of Dan Gable at Iowa.

Tom was an NCAA champion three times at the University of Iowa, where he compiled a career record of 158-7-2. He went on to the world stage winning numerous championships, including the Olympic Gold Medal in 1996.

Terry Brands had a career record of 110-10 in high school at Sheldon. He won two state titles and also had a runner-up finish.

Terry won a pair of NCAA Championships at Iowa and also had a runner-up finish. He was 137-7 wrestling under Dan Gable. His success on the world stage also included a number of championships and he was an Olympic Bronze Medalist in 2000.

The Brands brothers are also a formidable duo as coaches. Terry is the Associate Head Coach at Iowa, where he's coaching in his 23rd season. As the head coach, Tom Brands is 238-23-1 at Iowa and has led the program to four national titles. They're still intense, intimidating, and winning. Here's a preview of an upcoming special on the brothers, put together by Big Ten Network.

The B1G Story: The Brands Brothers will debut on Big Ten Network on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 10 p.m. Iowa time. It will follow Iowa's dual meet with Penn State. That's an entire night of must-see TV for wrestling fans.
