Iowa tight end Noah Fant is poised to have a big junior season. It could end up being his last in a Hawkeye uniform. Fant is regarded as one of the best tight ends in college football. That was confirmed Tuesday as Fant was named first-team preseason All American by Athlon Sports.

Fant led all FBS tight ends in yards per catch in 2017 and tied for the lead in touchdown catches with 11. He ranked second on the team with a career-high 30 receptions. He was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2017. Fant is one of three Big Ten players to be named to the first team. The Big Ten Conference led all conferences with 22 All American selections.

Fant has been making headlines with his off-season work too. He recently set the all-time Iowa mark for the vertical leap at 42 inches. He says that he's also added around 10 pounds of weight to his athletic frame without losing any of his speed and quickness. NFL executives are drooling over the prospect of Fant declaring for the NFL Draft after his junior year. Fant says that's not a thought right now. He just wants to get better. Iowa fans can certainly get behind that.

Iowa kicks off the 2018 season on September 1st at Kinnick Stadium versus Northern Illinois.
