Starving college students will do just about anything for cash. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that 12 volunteers at Iowa State are willing to gobble up some GMO-infused food.

On the Ames campus, this project will pay students $900 to eat genetrically modified bananas. They contain a gene that could help people living in African to make Vitamiin A. Propoents say the bananas are safe to eat. Opponents, including some 57,000 activists signing petitions, are demanding the project be halted.

While some organizations say our GMO intake is already really high, these Cyclones probably figure there's not much of an additional danger. If it were Natty Light 12-packs with a touch of liquified GMO enhancement there'd be more than 12 volunteers. In fact, Larry Eustachy might even return to Iowa to get in on that study.

What do you think? Are these students stepping up for a good global cause, or putting bad stuff in their systems for a few bucks?
