Okay, technically speaking, it's not for $50 million. It's for $52.5 million. OH, and only $30 million is guaranteed. I can't imagine the level of uncertainty.

As shared by a multitude of sports media outlets yesterday, Brandon Scherff has decided to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars after signing a three-year contract that is worth the aforementioned $52.5 million.

Scherff, who grew up in the small western Iowa town of Denison, played quarterback for the Monarchs until his junior year when he transitioned to playing on the offensive and defensive line.

It may have turned out to be the right choice, as Scherff has gone on to pay for the brand new turf field that Denison High School has for their football games.

After high school, Scherff played his college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Over his final two seasons playing at Kinnick Stadium, the future NFL lineman started all 26 games at left tackle and won the Outland Trophy, which is given to the nation's best offensive lineman.

He was also named unanimous Consensus All-American, Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year in the Big Ten Conference, first-team All-America by American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Associated Press, Walter Camp Foundation, SI.com, Phil Steele, Sporting News, USA Today, CBSSportsline.com, Scout.com, and College Sports Madness, and first-team All-Big Ten for the second straight season, according to Iowa's athletics website.

*Takes breath*

All of the accolades resulted in being selected fifth overall by Washington in the 2015 NFL draft. Since then, he's made five Pro Bowls in seven years (including each of the last three) and was named First-Team All-Pro in 2020.

According to Sports Illustrated, "In 2020, Scherff made over $15 million on the franchise tag and in 2021, that number jumped to over $18 million. In his new contract with the Jags, Scherff will be making similar money, a price he deserves based on the stellar play he's showcased in the NFL during the first half of his career."

After the illustrious start to his career and making plenty of money, he's decided to move on. Money likely wasn't an object for Jacksonville, as their starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, was sacked 32 times last season. Which ranks 15th in the league, but is still way too much if you want your franchise cornerstone to stay happy and healthy long-term.

Scherff is joined by several other veteran free agents of whom the Jaguars decided to bring in this offseason. The list is as follows, according to CBS Sports:

  • Cardinals WR Christian Kirk (4 years, $72 million)
  • Raiders WR Zay Jones (3 years, $24 million)
  • Giants TE Evan Engram (1 year, $9 million)
  • Commanders OG Brandon Scherff (3 years, $49.5 million)
  • Jets DT Foley Fatukasi (3 years, $30 million)
  • Falcons LB Foye Oluokun (3 years, $45 million)
