An Iowa man is facing charges that allege he did more than $261,000 in damage to two buildings. Authorities say he has admitted being involved in both damaging acts.

According to Axios Des Moines, 21-year-old Theo Larkpor of Des Moines has been charged with firing a gun that struck the Savery Hotel in Des Moines on May 27. Court records say that Larkpor fired a handgun from Cowles Commons at a person who pointed a gun at him. The gunfire hit a window in the hotel, causing over $1,300 in damage.

Ten days later, on June 6, Larkpor is accused of firing a dozen or more shots from Pappajohn Sculpture Park, toward the Krause Gateway Center. Larkpor reportedly told police he was shooting at a vehicle that he thought contained a person who had fired at him several hours before.

Authorities say that two 29-foot panels of glass on the Krause Gateway Center were struck by the bullets. Axios Des Moines reports the window panels on the building, which is home to the Kum & Go headquarters, are among the tallest in the U.S. When they were installed five years ago, each panel cost approximately $130,000.

Larkpor, who says he will pay for the damage he allegedly caused, (photo below) has been charged with a number of felonies. Here are all the charges Larkpor faces in the two incidents:

  • One Count of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon-Injure/Provoke Fear
  • Two counts of Reckless Use of a Firearm-Property Damage
  • One count of 1st Degree Criminal Mischief
  • One count of 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief
  • an additional count of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon

The Des Moines Police Department is unhappy that, after being arrested and charged last week, Larkpor was released from jail. His preliminary hearing in the cases will be held on Monday, June 26.
