The FDA recently announced a recall on a fruit company whose products have the potential to contain salmonella.

Liberty Fruit Company Inc. is recalling packages containing cantaloupe due to the salmonella potential. The company is located in Kansas City and distributed the products to four states: Iowa, Missouri Kansas, and Nebraska.

The recall is for precut and packaged cantaloupe containers labeled Fruit Medley, Fruit Tray, Fruit Salad, Cantaloupe Chunks, Hawaiian Blend, and Melon Medley. These come in 4oz, 8oz, 16oz, and 32oz packages for consumers and 5lbs containers for food service.

The expiration dates on the recalled packages range from 3/21/2022 to 3/26/2022 under the labels of Liberty Fruit Co. Inc and Carol’s Cuts.

The recall was ordered when a routine collection sample was analyzed and came back with a positive test for Salmonella.

So far there have been no reported illnesses that have resulted from this recall to date.

Salmonella can cause serious infections that can be fatal in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms healthy people can experience from the infection can include fever, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
