"Iowa nice" bears itself out in a new survey done by our old friends over at Zippia.

They took a look at the "snobbiest" and least snobby states in America based on factors such as percent of the population with a bachelor’s degree, percent of degree earners with a degree in arts and humanities, the number of Ivy League colleges, gallons of wine consumed yearly. It seems like the value of education was judged heavily as making a place snobby so, for that reason, it's a little surprising Iowa was so "low" on the list. We obviously don't have any ivy league colleges and it may seem like we love wine, we just don't drink it with our pinkies out (in most cases). According to the survey, we consume about 7 bottles of wine per person, per capita, compared to 21 in the number 1 snobbiest state, Massachusetts.

We actually made the bottom 10 of this list at #43 making us one of the least snobby states. The New England and East Coast regions solidified, right or wrong, their reputation for snobbery. Here were the Top 5 snobbiest states, according to Zippia.

  • Massachusetts
  • Vermont
  • Connecticut.
  • New York
  • New Hampshire

California is the only non-East coast state to make the Top 10, assumingly based on the wine factor.

The Top 5 LEAST snobby states were:

  • West Virginia
  • Mississippi
  • Oklahoma
  • Arkansas
  • Alabama

The southern charm clearly reigns supreme again, followed by South Dakota, Wyoming and the Hawkeye State as the least "snobby states". See the map below for rankings of each state.
