Located in a small town of just 10,000 people, Wells Enterprise is known for making more ice cream than any other location on earth, and it’s still growing!

On Friday morning, the Iowa Economic Development Authority board approves a $6.3 million investment tax credit for the company for a new expansion. This expansion is expected to create 135 jobs, add to its production line, and upgrade equipment says an article in Des Moines Register. The company plans to upgrade production lines, hardening equipment, freezer and refrigeration upgrades, and other equipment

Of the jobs that will be created, 82 of them will pay at least $23.94 an hour.

Le Mars' Wells Enterprises, which is known for the brands Blue Bunny, Halo Top, and Bomb Top ice cream, is one of Iowa’s largest employers with 2,500 employees and an additional 500 seasonal employees. Nationwide, Sioux City Journal says they employ an estimated 4,000 people.

The total expansion project is estimated to cost the company $70 million and will take place over the next two years.

Formerly known as the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor, the new Wells Visitor Center & Ice Cream Parlor has more than just great ice cream. The visitor's center includes an interactive experience.

Wells Enterprises has been in the ice cream business since 1913 and they make 150 million gallons of ice cream a year.

And an expansion project like this is sure to require more milk from local dairy producers!
