It's officially autumn in Iowa. I know, I know, it's been fall since late September, but it hasn't felt much like it, right? Temps in the mid-70s and beautiful, dry days. Since we got all that rain late last week and the weekend, it's really feeling like it's fall now.

With the temps in mind, here's a question for you: when do you first turn on your heat? That is for any homeowner, your furnace of course. When do you wake it from its summer slumber?

If you're like most Iowans, according to a new study, you're waiting too long, in my opinion, to start up that heater. I'll tell you below when the average Iowa home blasts furnace heat for the first time, and you can tell me if you agree.

But why are we waiting? Are we waiting so long because we're cheap? I know heating costs are (always it seems) on the rise, but who wants to be miserable in their own home?

You wouldn't put up with it at work, right? If the office was an ice bucket because the company you work for wanted to save some cash.

The study comes from Service Master and claims that Iowans are crankin' the heat up for the first time on November 18. In 2022, that's a Friday. Also, it is supposed to be a very cold day. I think that's a coincidence, to be honest.

The study says that Iowans wait until that date because it's usually when the high temp is about freezing or, 32 degrees. The same study indicates Iowans wait longer than residents in Nebraska, Minnesota, and Wisconsin to flip on the furnace.

You can see where each state turns on heating on the map below.

Do you wait this long? Does it really take the temp getting to freezing before you stop freezing?

No thanks!

Ope! People From Iowa Simply Cannot Pronounce Any of These Words

Whether we're adding Rs, or replacing a harder letter with a softer one, Iowans struggle with a handful of words.

You HAVE to See This Nebraska Ghost Town

Despite being a ghost town the buildings are in excellent shape!
