If you're looking for a unique dining experience in the Iowa City area, a new Mexican restaurant may be exactly what you're after!

Alebrije Mexican Restaurant just celebrated their grand opening at 401 S Linn St in Iowa City this week. It's owned by Fernando Weber and is described on Facebook as "a modern restaurant rooted in tradition and the true flavors of Mexico." They encourage Iowans to "come and enjoy everything from Mexican street food to more complex regional dishes. Our food, drinks, and decor are all crafted for the best experience!"

Alebrije first opened its doors to customers for their "soft opening" with limited hours back on September 10th, but last night, November 11th, was the official grand opening celebration. The space includes plenty of seating and cool decor, plus an indoor patio with a "living wall." Here are some photos of the interior that have been posted on Facebook:

Now, let's get to the good stuff... the food! Alebrije offers both a lunch and a dinner menu with options like ceviche, enchiladas, carne asada, Mexican street corn, birria, nachos, salads, and a variety of tacos and burritos. All of the tortillas are made in-house from either heirloom Mexican corn or Sonoran wheat flour. The restaurant also offers all sorts of different beverages including margaritas, daiquiris, sangria, martinis, wine, beer, and micheladas. You can check out a full menu HERE.

The hours listed online for Alebrije are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Happy Hour is Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information about the new restaurant, you can follow them on Facebook HERE.
