According to Iowa News Now, A spike in new COVID-19 cases in Iowa City has prompted the University of Iowa Athletics Department to "pause workouts in all sports until after Labor Day."

This recent spike has developed since college students returned to campus. Iowa News Now reports that between August 24 and 30, the department tested 815 people for COVID-19. Of the 815, 93 tests were positive. The report also states that "since May 29, the department has received a total of 176 positive tests."

The spikes among Iowans of college age did not go unnoticed by the governor. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds recently closed bars in six counties after the spike in positive COVID cases in the state from the 19 to 24-year-old group. As COVID continues to rear its head across the state, precautions are being taken. The pause on student workouts are just another one of them.
