Greg Machak has been building models for almost his entire life, so when the pandemic hit and he couldn't go anywhere, he got to work on a new model: A drivable US Navy destroyer.

The entire 'ship' is built onto a golf cart. After he finished it, he took it to Braidwood, Illinois' annual fundraising event that features a golf cart competition. The fundraiser raises money for local food pantries.

Last year, he built a pirate ship on his golf cart, and of course won the contest then as well.

This year's ship was built after the USS Hollister, the ship that Machak's uncle, Joe Vercellotti served as chief engineer of.

The ship is about 24 feet long, and Greg says he spent over 1000 hours building the model.

"I think it's a tremendous idea of honoring a ship which served honorably," Machak told ABC 7.

Machak is bringing the ship to every parade he can get it driven to.

"I hope that my uncle Joseph is proud of this," he said.
