If you've looked outside lately, you've probably noticed the harsh winter weather and road conditions. It's no joke. In fact, this afternoon the City of Cedar Rapids issued a press release declaring a snow emergency for the area until noon on Friday, February 5.

Things aren't better in other parts of the state. Law enforcement officials are strongly advising citizens to NOT ATTEMPT TRAVEL especially on I-80 near Newton.

WHO 13 reports that a multi-vehicle crash has blocked eastbound I-80. The Iowa State Patrol also confirmed with WHO 13 that multiple squad cars were involved and there are believed to be multiple fatalities. The eastbound lanes of the interstate are shut down. It's extremely important for drivers to stay off the roads so that they don't make matters worse. Law enforcement officials say "even more accidents happen while emergency responders are trying to respond to initial crashes." WHO reports that law enforcement is going to each vehicle to check on drivers and passengers. Again, stay off the roads if you can.
