Have You Read The Most Popular Children’s Book in Iowa?
Happy Read Across America Day!
The national holiday is in honor of the birthday of Dr. Suess. So to celebrate we're looking at the children's book that Iowans love the most.
Grand Canyon University conducted research to find the most popular children's book in each state based on Google search data. They looked at Time and Publishers Weekly to put together a list of 44 of the most popular books of all time, then pulled search data of children's books from November 2020-November 2021. Books aimed at an older audience were not part of the study.
What's the most popular children's book in Iowa?
The study found that the most popular children's book in Iowa was "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie." Believe it or not, I've actually never read this one. I was all about the Dr. Suess books.....you can't beat those rhymes. Our neighboring states like books such as "Harold and the Purple Crayon," "Yertle the Turtle," and "Charlotte's Web."
What's the most popular children's book in the U.S.?
Overall, the most popular children's book in America is "The Cat in the Hat". Other classics that tied for second place include, "The Poky Little Puppy,” “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” and “Harold and the Purple Crayon."
In honor of National Read Across America Day, and our state's favorite children's book, here's a reading of the classic.
There! Now we can all say we've read it.
Do you think the study got it right? What's your favorite children's book? Let us know in the comments. Happy reading!
