I was taking a walk through my neighborhood one evening and noticed something strange lighting up my neighbors' house. Their porch lights were lit up green. At first, I thought it was some old Halloween decor or lighting that they have yet to take down.

A green porch light is meant to express support for U.S. military veterans. During this time of year, around Veterans Day, you are sure to see this quite a bit around the area right now. Also, it also is very common to see porches illuminated like this around Memorial Day.

This campaign, called Greenlight A Vet, started in 2013 with Walmart. Walmart's Veterans Welcome Home Commitment campaign helped secure job offers to veterans who were honorably discharged.

There was an ad campaign that was a part of this, that encouraged people to make a porch light green to show support for those who have served. After that, it sort of took off, so now people all across the country are paying tribute to our brave veterans
