FilmScene In Iowa City Screening Classics Outdoors

FilmScene, which calls itself a "nonprofit cinema" in Iowa City has been closed for months, and indefinitely, due to the pandemic. Like some other theaters, it's been loosely pinning its reopening date to the release date of Christopher Nolan's blockbuster 'Tenet', a movie that was set to come out in July, then August, now--who knows? Because the answer to that is no one, FilmScene had to shift its plans as well.

Not only that, increased COVID-19 numbers are making them re-assess their timeline.

The drive-in movie theater experience seems to be the popular new, old tradition to give movie-goers their fix during the pandemic, so FilmScene is trying a variation of it. But you don't have to sit in your car.

You do have to practice social-distancing as they will use a closed-off area of the 200 Block of North Linn Street, between East Market and East Bloomington Streets. Seating spaces will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and spaced apart in "pods", or groups for proper social distancing. Once again, the honor system is in place on this for folks to only sit with the group they came with. They are thinking capacity in the neighborhood of 75-100 people per screening.

Masks will be required for all, and the northside businesses will be open and available to purchase snacks for the movie. Some great movies are on the bill and the exact location of the screenings is listed by the Iowa City Press-Citizen as "North Linn Street, between East Market and East Bloomington streets".

I also forgot to mention: the above "FilmStreet" screenings are free.
