Father's Day weekend is the perfect time to take in a game at the ballpark.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels are back home this Friday Saturday and Sunday, just in time to take your dad out to Vet's Stadium for a hot dog and a cold beer.

Some of my favorite memories of my dad are the times we spent at Tiger Stadium. As a kid, he took me to my first MLB ballgame and I was proud to return the favor and take him to his first game when Detroit's new stadium, Comerica Park opened.

It was fitting that my son took this picture of me and dad, as we walked up the concourse together and saw the view for the first time.

Our father died last December at the age of 90. Mom passed away in 2010. He and my mom were married for over 60 years and now they're together again.

I attribute my love for baseball with my mom and dad. They were both big fans and treated us to game whenever they could afford it. More often, we would play our own baseball games in the backyard with plastic balls and bat. Those were the best games of all.
