An early morning accident in Cedar County killed the driver of the only vehicle involved.

Troopers from the Iowa State Patrol were called to the scene of a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 at 12:08 Saturday morning. The crash happened on the westbound portion of the interstate, near mile marker 255, just east of the West Branch exit.

When they arrived, troopers found a semi had lost control on the interstate, which was one-hundred percent ice-covered at the time. The semi had left the roadway, coming to rest to the north of the interstate with the cab on its side. According to the crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, the driver of the semi was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the driver has not been released pending notification of relatives.
