Downtown Cedar Rapids Brewery To Cease Brewing Operations

If that title sounds strange, bear with us because there's (relatively) good news later in the article.

As you are no doubt aware, the pressures on small businesses are at an all-time high, and the craft beer market is increasingly competitive. After much reflection, we have decided to take the business in an exciting new direction that will allow us to continue making positive contributions to the community. As part of this, we have made the difficult decision to cease brewing operations at Thew effective immediately

That quoted message appears on the Thew Brewing Company Facebook page and in the Cedar Rapids Gazette. The good news is their taproom will remain open until further notice, and an announcement of a new venture is "coming soon". Thew Brewing Company is located at 301 2nd Ave. SE. The Gazette says they have been open since 2018.

According to Thew's website, they do serve food and host a lot of music and comedy shows. It will be interesting to see what their forthcoming new venture will be, as we heard earlier this week that another downtown Cedar Rapids restaurant and bar would be "ceasing operations" later this spring and transforming into an event venue. Popoli Ristorante and Sullivan's Bar made the announcement earlier this week, saying it will close as a restaurant (for the second time) on May 8th and be reborn under the new venture on June 1.
