Summer's going to come and go fast now that the 4th of July has passed, but don't let it slip away without a lot of fun.

Hiawatha's Guthridge Park is getting ready for its annual tradition, "Hiawatha Fun Fest". It's a free, family-friendly event each summer that's been scheduled for Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3.

Friday night starting at 4 p.m. features the famous "Touch a Truck", sort of a meet and greet with the local firefighters of Hiawatha and their equipment on display. The kids will love it! Live music park from 6-9 p.m. with Whiskey High and a laser tag tournament.

A full day is in store on Saturday starting at 8 with a firemen's 5k, pancake breakfast, food and beverage from Clock House Brewery, Aroma Pizza, Koa Ice, Shriners grill out, a parade and more.

At noon there are kids' games, face painting, balloon art, the Trackless Train, bags tournament, inflatables, zipline, water balloon contest, not to mention an ice cream contest sponsored by Culver's, the Cedar Rapids Municipal band, storytime and more.

Heading into Saturday night, it's music from the Funk Daddies, with food trucks and  concessions, including Clock House Brewery for adults

The weekend tops off with fireworks at dusk Saturday night!

I always love going to this event, especially since I live right down the street. It's laid back fun, and did I mention it's free?

Mark your calendar for Friday and Saturday, August 2-3 at Guthridge Park in Hiawatha. See you there!
