Despite Foul Troubles, Garza Dominates Wildcats
Luka Garza came out hot against Northwestern on Tuesday night. He scored the first 10 points for Iowa. But thanks to foul trouble, he wouldn't score again in the first half. He then sat for nearly 8 minutes to start the second half after picking up his third foul. But Garza was just getting started.
The junior center scored 17 points in the remaining 11 minutes of play to lead Iowa to a 75-62 win over Northwestern. Iowa improves to 12-5 overall, 3-3 in Big Ten play. Garza currently leads the Big Ten in scoring at just over 27 points per game. Sure, we're only six games in, but so far no one has had an answer for him.
Senior guard Bakari Evelyn had a great game for Iowa off the bench scoring eight points and leading the way with seven assists on the night. The return of freshman guard C.J. Fredrick also lifted the Hawkeyes. He missed his first few shots from the outside, but then nailed three, three-point shots in a row.
Iowa gets to enjoy some home cooking now with their next three games at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. They host #19 Michigan on Friday.
