Just like so many other things in 2020, the 4th of July is going to be very different. The parades won't be happening, nor will many of the other things we closely associate with Independence Day. In Cedar Rapids, there won't be a Freedom Festival this year, which also means no fireworks. However, some cities will still be lighting up the sky on the night of the 4th.

Coralville announced this morning that even though most of the city's 4thFest events are canceled, they still plan to have fireworks. Just where those fireworks will be held is still in question.

In a media release from the City of Coralville, 4thFest Committee Co-chair Lynn Snyder said,

We really hoped to have the concert, parade, and other events that so many of us enjoy so much. Unfortunately, we could not identify appropriate social distancing measures that would allow us to offer those long-standing family traditions. We look forward to a better-than-ever 4thFest in 2021.

Coralville plans to release more information on where the fireworks will take place, along with guidelines surrounding them late in June.

Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart announced over the weekend that his city will have fireworks at 10 p.m. on July 4. They'll be shot off near Lost Island Water Park, but there will be no musical entertainment preceding the fireworks display.
