Cedar Rapids Xavier Is Final Metro Team Alive At State Tournament

The Cedar Rapids Xavier girl's volleyball team advanced to the semifinal round for the first time at the State Volleyball Tournament yesterday in downtown Cedar Rapids. The Saints defeated Marion 3 sets to 1.

This is Xavier's fifth time at the state tournament, but the first time that they've got to stay around for awhile. They will play #2 seed Dubuque Wahlert in a semifinal at noon on Thursday.

Xavier is the last metro area team alive in this year's tournament. The Linn-Mar girls lost yesterday in a class 5A quarterfinal to Ankeny. Other corridor area teams still alive include Mt Vernon in class 3A, and Springville in class 1A.
