Cedar Rapids Delaying Fall Loose Leaf Collection

Eastern Iowa is going to start looking a whole lot more colorful this week as the leaves begin to turn thanks to the arrival of cool, fall temperatures. In Cedar Rapids, fall loose leaf collection was scheduled to begin next week but is being delayed as the city continues cleanup efforts following the August 10 derecho.

This summer, the City of Cedar Rapids announced loose leaf collection would be from October 5 through December 11, but the start has now been delayed two weeks. However, the collection will not be extended. The window in Cedar Rapids will now be Monday, October 19 through Thursday, December 10. The city is asking you to use the next two weeks to prevent issues when the collection begins.

Cedar Rapids uses vacuum trucks to remove fallen leaves. This fall, many of the areas where leaves are vacuumed from have just had large piles of tree debris removed. The city's Solid Waste and Recycling Department is asking that you rake the area between your sidewalk and curb to make sure no sticks or remaining pieces of debris end up in the middle of leaf piles. Any sticks that are bigger than six inches can damage or clog the vacuum trucks.

Collection will be on Mondays and Tuesdays, these weeks:

Northeast (NE) Side

Collection will be on Mondays and Tuesdays, these weeks:

Monday, November 23
Monday, December 7

Southwest (SW) Side

Collection will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays, these weeks:
Wednesday, October 21
Wednesday, November 4
Wednesday, November 18
Wednesday, December 2

Northwest (NW) Side

Collection will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays, these weeks:
Wednesday, October 28
Wednesday, November 11
Wednesday, November 25 (collection will be Wednesday and Friday this week, due to Thanksgiving)
